About Us
Kindred Care Collective is rooted in East Oakland, on Ohlone land, full of families from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Yet many perinatal support groups and offerings are costly & don’t reflect the richness of our neighborhoods, cultures, and communities.
We want something different for ourselves, our children, and our community. We center working, low-income, queer and BIPOC mamas, birthers and families.
Collectively, we are building community practices of care alongside each other and you—because we envision a world where caregivers also feel cared for.
Join us in our collective healing & care journey.
Our Stories
When I was pregnant with my first, I was on public benefits and barely getting by. My mom was sick with cancer and couldn’t be there to support me postpartum. After having my second child, I was laid off with no notice, back on benefits. I felt alone and overwhelmed. I wished I had somewhere to go where I could get help, free resources, be myself, and didn’t feel shame for my financial, breastfeeding, and mental health struggles. I never knew having a baby could feel so lonely.
